Don’t have a car in Sydney? We know, we know… it’s not always that easy (we created a parking app and all). Nevertheless, there is still a way to enjoy all Sydney has to offer without your own vehicle. All you need is this blog post and for Sydney’s Metro System to work (for once).

From the stunning Wentworth Falls to the breathtaking Jerusalem Bay, we’ve compiled our top 5 places that you can easily access by public transport or on foot. So pack your bag and come explore these amazing locations – from Heathcote National Park to Malabar to Bondi Beach walk – all without having to worry about getting behind the wheel!

Wentworth Falls

Did you know that in less than 2 hours from Sydney we have our very own fairytale village? Well not quite but Wentworth Falls is close enough!

Just two hours away from Sydney lies a magical wonderland that looks like something out of a fairytale. Nestled in the Blue Mountains, Wentworth Falls is an idyllic village filled with lush greenery, stunning waterfalls and breathtaking views. Take a journey to this hidden gem and explore its beauty for yourself – you won’t regret it!

Getting there: The Blue Mountains Line from Central in Sydney.

Time: Approx 1hr 45

Jerusalem Bay

Jerusalem Bay is a stunning destination located just outside of Sydney, Australia. With its beautiful views and camping opportunities, it’s the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and reconnect with nature. You can get there easily with just a train ride and a short walk. It’s a very convenient trip from Sydney Central that takes less than one hour. The walking track to Jerusalem Bay starts at the Cowan train station, and is an easy, but at times very steep, 2.4km trail down to the bay. The best bit, you get to enjoy all its beauty without leaving a carbon footprint behind!

Getting there: Central Station to Cowal Station on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line + 45 min walk

The Basin

This is one for all the adventures out there! There’s no car access to The Basin campground so it wouldn’t matter if you had one or not. The Basin at Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park is an enchanting place to camp and enjoy nature. Surrounded by grassy meadows and overlooking Pittwater, The Basin provides a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. With its excellent facilities, including barbecues, toilets, and walking tracks, The Basin offers the perfect spot for camping trips with friends or family. With its stunning views and peaceful atmosphere, it’s no wonder why so many choose to stay at The Basin Campground. To get there take the ferry which departs hourly, on the hour, 9am to 5pm from Palm Beach Wharf.

Getting there: 199 Bus to Palm Beach Wharf and then Ferry PLMB

Time: Approx 1hr

Heathcote National Park

Kingfisher Pool is a hidden gem located in Heathcote National Park, just a short train ride away from the city. It’s our favourite getaway for those looking for an easy and flexible adventure – no car needed. After some rain, watch as the water cascades down into the serene pool – it’s a sight to behold! Take the train down to Waterfall station and from there its just a 700m straightforward walk to the start of the trail at the end of Warabin St. Pack your picnic and head out to Kingfisher Pool for an unforgettable experience.

Getting there: T4 Train Line to Waterfall from Martin Place + 3km walk

Time: Approx 2hr

Malabar to Bondi Beach walk

The renowned Bondi to Maroubra walk is a beautiful coastal track that isn’t famous for no reason – it hugs the ocean and provides spectacular views for much of the way. The rugged cliff tops, sea views and numerous ocean baths make it a really picturesque walk. It’s starts and ends with two of the eastern suburbs most beautiful beaches. Maroubra is our personal favourite of the two and where we’d recommend spending some time afterwards if you can. Top Tip: Make a pitstop for lunch at the beloved local cafe. – The Lion and Buffalo in South Coogee. There Wagyu Steak Sandwich with truffle mayo is to die for.

Getting there: 333 Bus to Bondi or the 377X or 379 bus to Maroubra and then walk

Time: Approx 3-4hr walking slowly and enjoying the views (12 km)
