What you should know

Many of us have been adjusting to working from home (or WFH) for the last few months. As Australia manages COVID cases, workplaces are encouraging staff to return to the office, either for a few days a week or on a full-time basis. Some of us are just itching to see colleagues again and perhaps are looking for a reason to get out of the house. Whilst we navigate living with COVID, commuting to work safely is a top priority for employers and employees. We have pulled together a comprehensive list of your parking options should you choose to drive to work, whether you are heading in for a meeting, a few days a week, or are back at work in the office full time.

Meetings (<2 hours)

If you’re popping into the CBD for just a quick meeting or lunch, you might be tempted to try your luck and with on street parking. On-street parking during the week is approximately $7.20/hour (Mon – Fri 8am – 6pm) for a maximum of 1 – 2 hours. However, these are often hard already filled up with trades and construction vehicles. Meanwhile, parking for an hour or two can cost up to $40/hour at car parks in the city. Instead, we recommend booking a spot online in advance, so you don’t get caught out circling the one-way streets of the city and be late, or caught with the expensive casual parking rates.

Oscar has hourly options available below:

  • King St Wharf parking on Shelley St – $6/hour (Book here)
  • Central parking George St – $5/hour (Book here)
  • The Rocks parking on Cumberland St – $6.35/hour (Book here)

Half days (>3 hours)

If you’re popping into the office for a few hours, chances are you’ve already missed out on early bird parking. We recommend booking hourly parking (see above), but if you’re staying for over 4 hours, one of our flat daily rates might work best for you (see below).

A few days a week

If you’re back at work but only for a few days a week, you may be able to catch early bird rates at the various car parks. However, keep in mind you will need to enter and exit within the specified times in order to avoid bill shock (some city car parks will catch you out with an $89/day rate).

If you aren’t sure about your hours and might have to stay back late, we recommend booking one of Oscar’s flat fee spaces. Oscar’s daily rates remain the same regardless of your entry and exit time. Just make sure you are extending your booking via the app when you need more time and exit before midnight.

  • Darling Harbour parking on Sussex St – $11/day (Book here)
  • Townhall parking on Pitt St – $20/day (Book here)
  • King St Wharf parking on Shelley St – $20/day (Book here)
  • Martin Place parking on Elizabeth St – $33/day (Book here)
  • St James parking on Castlereagh St – $20/day (Book here)
  • Broadway parking on Bay St- $15/day (Book here)
  • Central parking on Bulwara Rd – $20/day (Book here)
  • Wynyard parking on Bont St- $40/day (Book here)

Full time

If you’re back at work in the office full-time, it may be worthwhile to pay for a reserved car space on a monthly basis. The benefit of a reserved space is you’ll have unlimited entry and exits, you don’t need to book it every day and you’ll have full-time access to it. If you would like to explore this option, check out our map of cheap bookable monthly parking.
